Discover curiosities and tips about the world of sofas, to choose more consciously the product that’s right for you.
This is one of the most frequent doubts among those who have to choose between a leather or fabric sofa.
But what’s actually true?
Leather is a good thermal insulator: thanks to its molecular structure, it prevents heat dispersion stored by the closest body. This is why we wear leather jackets in winter: they retain our body heat and protect us from the cold. Exactly what will happen on a leather sofa. And does the leather sofa make you sweat in summer? Absolutely not: if we perceive a feeling of humidity when we’re sweaty and sit on a leather sofa, the reason lies in the fact that leather is water-repellent and therefore simply doesn’t absorb liquids.
For many people, the fabric sofa must necessarily have removable covers. It’s an understandable need, but have you ever tried to remove and put back covers on a sofa?
It’s a complex operation that, depending on the sofa, can take a lot of time. Sometimes the covers, especially after incorrect washing, can shrink or conversely loosen. And the sofa is no longer the same as before. Today there are multiple fabrics with high technical characteristics (such as stain resistance or water repellency) that allow much more practical cleaning of the sofa without having to remove the covers: by choosing a non-removable cover sofa, you’ll have the advantage of a fabric that doesn’t change over time and will be more taut and adherent to the structure, offering a more elegant appearance and less subject to wrinkles.
People think that leather that wrinkles on the sofa is a problem and a sign of poor quality.
But is that really the case?
Real leather is a natural product of great value. Over time, starting from the first uses, it becomes softer and develops visible wrinkles in the most used areas. These characteristics, such as softness and natural wrinkles, are the guarantee that you’ve purchased genuine and valuable leather. However, excessive wrinkles and cracks can be a sign of poor maintenance or exposure to harmful environmental factors such as sun and humidity: what to do then? Clean and moisturize the leather sofa using our cleaning kit, and avoid continuous exposure to light sources.
We spend a lot of time watching television and we need to be careful not to compromise visual wellbeing. Sitting too close to the screen can cause eye strain, irritation and headaches. Conversely, excessive distance can make it difficult to focus on details, leading to eye strain. In both cases, viewing becomes less pleasant and less healthy. Let’s calculate together the right distance between sofa and TV, based on simple guidelines studied on screen size (in inches):
- Minimum distance = TV diagonal (in inches) × 1.5
- Optimal distance = TV diagonal (in inches) × 2
- Maximum distance = TV diagonal (in inches) × 2.5 – 3
A practical example. If you have a 50″ television:
- Minimum distance: 1.9 meters
- Optimal distance: 2.5 meters
- Maximum distance: 3.8 meters
